As a troop of three Senior Girl Scouts, we created Delightful Door Hangers for our Silver Award. The Silver Award is a project to create a sustainable solution for a problem in our community, and it is the second highest award a Girl Scout can achieve. With each door hanger designed and drawn by the three of us, Delightful Door Hangers was the result of over 150 hours of collective work. Our website’s goal is to offer a free tool to help reduce feelings of anxiety or depression through the process of coloring door hangers, while also boosting feelings of connection by gifting the door hangers to friends or loved ones.

When the coronavirus pandemic swept the world, our small troop was forced to rethink our original project idea, which was a senior citizen-friendly garden bed. But when we began to see the effects of social distancing and quarantine firsthand, our troop recognized a new opportunity to make a difference in our community. We noticed that many individuals felt isolated and lonely, remaining indoors not connecting with friends, neighbors, or even family members. So, we came up with an idea to bring some happiness to those around us in this time of need. For our project, our troop decided to create a website that offers printable door hangers with uplifting messages on them.

The creators behind Delightful Door Hangers are Amnaya, Olivia, and Samv from Troop #10405 of Girl Scouts of Northern California. Having been in Girl Scouts for ten years, we are now high school students entering our sophomore year.
